We collect as little as a website can reasonably collect, and we do not sell any of it.

Who we are
Slat & Shade is a website published by Magoo Media Group. It is a research and comparison publisher for backyard shade structures. We do not sell products, take orders or process payments, so we never handle payment details of any kind.

What we collect
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked. It records things like pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type, and referring site. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
- Affiliate click events. When you click a product link we record that the click happened, which product it was for, and which page it came from. This tells us which recommendations readers act on. It is not tied to an identity.
- Contact form submissions. If you email us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you enter. That is used to reply to you and for nothing else.
- Standard server logs. Our host records requests, including IP addresses, as part of operating the site securely.
What we don't do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your data.
- We do not run a mailing list, so we cannot add you to one.
- We do not use advertising trackers, retargeting pixels or a captcha service. Our contact form is protected by a hidden field and a timing check rather than a third-party script, specifically so a visitor is not tracked in order to send us a message.
- We do not collect payment information, because we never take a payment.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Cookies and similar technologies
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. You can block them with your browser settings or a content blocker, and the site will work normally without them — nothing on Slat & Shade requires a cookie to function.
Our own affiliate redirect (`/go`) sets no cookie of its own. It forwards you to the retailer, and the retailer's own cookies and privacy policy then apply. We have no control over and no visibility into those.
Third parties
- Google Analytics — analytics, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
- Amazon — when you follow a product link, Amazon receives the referral and applies its own privacy policy and cookies. We receive commission reporting from Amazon in aggregate; we do not receive information identifying who bought what.
- Vercel — our hosting provider, which processes requests and logs them in order to serve the site.
- Microsoft — contact form messages are delivered via Microsoft Graph.
Retention
Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics configuration and then deleted automatically. Contact form emails are kept as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up, and deleted when they are no longer useful. Server logs are retained by our host on its own schedule.
Your choices
You can block analytics cookies in your browser or use Google's opt-out browser add-on. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted.
To make any of those requests, email contact@slatandshade.com and tell us what you would like. In practice, the only data we are likely to hold that identifies you is an email you sent us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the last-updated date at the top of the page changes with it. We review it every six months alongside the site's other trust pages.
